Last week I was in Costco and was shocked to see a 65″ Samsung UHD TV for under $3000.
The darn thing looked amazing too. I figured sub $3000 sets would show up around the Super Bowl in February. But then Rampant Design’s Sean Mullen pointed me to this link.
50″ Vizio for $1000 and a 40″ LG for $999. Wow, forget “4k is the future” you can just say “4k is here.” Yeah distribution by the traditional and satellite operators will need to be figured out, but in this internet connected and video delivery world, 4k is already heading to the homes. That’s the reason why we’re launching Contemporary Living Network as a 4k UHD network. No reason to start shooting original programming in HD when 4k is penetrating the mainstream at a blistering pace.
Even I’m amazed. I really thought the first $1000 50″ UHD TVs would show up for the Super Bowl 2016. Just shows how much this technology has been embraced vs. the anemic response to the gimmick of 3D.
Get ready folks, your first UHD project is closer than you think.
