In this "Get A Life" installment I'm talking Pizzelles! Classic Italian wafer cookies that are generally a staple of any holiday gathering. Often flavored with vanilla or anise, these cookies are made quite simply with, essentially, a waffle iron.
For years I've had my grandmother's Palmer Electric Pizzelle Iron stored in the outdoor shed. For whatever reason, this year I got the urge to get the thing out and see if it still works. Not only did it work, it worked brilliantly. And you know what? They still make Pizzelle irons almost identical to this one! For recipes I searched the Food Network's website and the NY Times Cooking section. An online subscription to the NY Times is well worth it just for the recipes. I made Aunt Philomenia's vanilla flavored pizzelle for my testing. Next time I think I'll try the Chocolate Peppermint pizzelle. Here's some photos of my testing with the classic Palmer Electric Pizzelle Iron.
