Growing your 'followers' by 1 can be incredibly powerful once you understand why.
If your entire focus, your entire strategy is predicated on followers, then you're chasing popularity, or as its better known 'vanity metrics.'
Going from 1000 to 20,000 to 50,000 followers sounds impressive. "Look we have 50,000 sets of eyeballs looking at us now!" What you really have are 50,000 people (and/or automated bots) who thought something was interesting enough to hit the "follow" button with their thumb.
They'll scroll through and click the little heart button as they quickly swipe through their feed and..... well oftentimes not much else. But dang it makes you feel great to have all those little hearts.
1 "fanatic" however, well, they are priceless.
The fanatic actively engages in conversation. They purchase your product or service. And most of all, they tell everyone about your value proposition. Not just on social, they become a "boots on the ground" brand ambassador.
That can lead to the most important growth metric of all. Profit.
Design your story, your content and your strategy to grow passion, not likes.
Grow fanatics, not followers.
Play the long game to build an engaged and loyal community.
